This group covers Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian and other Asian cuisines that are not Chinese, and the etiquette varies by kitchen. Japanese and Korean restaurants often take reservations for dinner and may add a service charge for large groups; Thai and Vietnamese spots are usually walk-in and quick-turnover. Spice levels are frequently adjustable on request at Thai, Indian and Sichuan-adjacent menus, so say if you want it mild or hot. Korean BBQ restaurants typically charge per person for all-you-can-eat service with a time limit, and grills are shared at the table. Vietnamese pho shops post bowl sizes (regular or large) and a plate of herbs, bean sprouts and lime is normal to add yourself. Card and tap-to-pay are widely accepted; cash-only is more common at small family-run counters.

San Jose is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and San Jose follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Great spot for authentic Hawaiian poke, where the fish is pre-marinated and purchased by the pound. There were a lot seafood options when I visited such as tuna, salmon, and scallop. You can buy poke bowls which comes with your choice of base, poke, and sides. However, I got 1/2 pound of rice, 1/4 pound spicy salmon poke, 1/4 pound Hawaiian ahi poke for $15. The fish was fresh and the poke tasted great. I preferred the spicy salmon poke over the Hawaiian ahi tuna poke, but there's just because spicy salmon poke is my go to poke. Would definitely recommend for poke and will be coming back.

This is in my top three poke restaurant of all time so far. A great selection of poke which I tried three and they were all amazing. Side of mac salad was fine and so was the crab salad. Had their butter mochi bread as well which was ok. Poke wise I would 100% recommend trying, they are just a tad more expensive then similar restaurants but still definitely worth a visit.

Popular poke place in San Jose known for their poke nachos, poke bowls and homemade Hawaiian sweets. Fun fact but their ahi is freshly flown from Hawaii and prepared on the same day. I’ve never seen a poke place have their own milk teas and butter mochi (which I’ll come back to try another time). They have a wide variety selections for the poke bowls including garlic butter scallops, take (octopus), their usual ahi and salmon while having unique sides not found at other stores. I got the poke lover bowl for $20 (2 poke selections and 2 sides) with spicy ahi and kakui nut ahi, and Mac salad and imitation crab for sides. Although their bowl may look small, they pack their bowls with rice and poke. Their ahi was amazing – it’s like the filet mignon of the sea. The ahi doesn’t need to be chewed because melts in your mouth! The spicy ahi was my favorite because it had spice that snuck up on me while having great spicy mayo flavor. The kakui nut came with onions and was similar to traditional ahi at other stores. Mac salad was on the saltier side but I prefer it because it makes the bowl more flavorful. The imitation crab is lighter on the mayo so the sweetness from the imitation crab

It was a cloudy Tuesday afternoon, when my partner and I decided we wanted poke. There is a fierce debate about where is the best poke in the bay, but I think Aloha Fresh has secured my vote. We got two orders of the poke nachos as well as two additional sides of poke as I really wanted to try some of their various flavors. We got the Smokey Pokey and Spicy Salmon for our nachos and then we tried the Ginger Scallion Ahi as well as the Garlic Mayo Scallops. Everything was delicious and there’s nothing I would do differently. The service was also great as the guy helping out gave his recommendations and was super chill.

We visited Aloha Fresh in San Jose Japantown after seeing all the hype on TikTok, and when we arrived there was already a long line out the door—about 20 people ahead of us. From start to finish, it took roughly 30 minutes to order and get our food, partly because they ran out of spicy salmon, which slowed things down even more. We tried the spicy salmon, spicy ahi tuna, scallop, the popular “um nachos” (poke served over wonton chips—the main reason we came), butter mochi, and Korean fried chicken. Overall, most of the food was pretty tasty and the pricing felt fair. However, the scallop was a miss. It had a strong seafood, “sea” taste that didn’t feel fresh and left an uncomfortable aftertaste. Because of that, we ended up throwing it away. The Korean fried chicken was also disappointing. It came out immediately and wasn’t hot—or even warm—which made it clear it wasn’t freshly cooked. As for the um nachos, they were good, but not groundbreaking. I’ve had similar poke-and-wonton-chip combinations before, whether in taco form or plated differently. This felt more like a trendy fusion take than something truly new or standout. I wouldn’t say it’s better than other poke places—it
